The Traitors Renewed for Two More Seasons at Peacock; Alan Cumming Continues as Host

Peacock is clearly a faithful to “The Traitors.” The Emmy-winning competition series has just been renewed for two more seasons, the streamer announced Wednesday morning. And back for Season 4 and Season 5 will be host Alan Cumming.

The news comes as shooting has finished on Season 3 of “The Traitors,” while the second season is currently nominated for four Emmys, including outstanding reality competition program, outstanding directing for a reality series, outstanding cinematography for a reality series and Alan Cumming in outstanding host for a reality or reality competition program.

The show’s Season 2 also received outstanding achievement in reality at the TCA Awards; and became the most-watched unscripted series in the U.S. across all streaming platforms during launch week, according to Nielsen.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Camilla Luddington on Sticking With the Show for 13 Seasons, Jo’s Pregnancy and Alex Choosing Izzie

On a recent episode of Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, Cumming discussed the outlandish version of “Alan Cumming” he plays on the show. He also talked about the impact he hopes his wardrobe on “The Traitors” might have on the greater population, and the creepy scene between “Alan” and his trusty assistant “Fergus” that ultimately didn’t make the Season 2 cut.

Cumming told Variety how he is having a blast as host of “The Traitors,” which allows him to both give these big, outlandish speeches while also bringing a bit of improv to his interactions with the players.

“Chewing the scenery,” he says. “I really love that. It’s kind of dichotomy of absolute improvise, being in the moment, and then these big sort of set pieces. I can’t tell you how much I love this show. It’s such a left field thing for me to have done at this stage in my career. I think that’s also interesting for me, as the kind of performer I am, to be sort of subverting the notion of a host as well. Because I’m obviously hosting the show, but I’m also doing it in character. I’ve hosted things before like documentaries and shows. But nothing like this. This is very much a very different person to who actually I am.”

The first season of “The Traitors” landed an Emmy for casting; both Season 1 and Season 2 are now streaming on Peacock. As for Season 3, the next installment of “The Traitors” will premiere early next year with 21 new contestants, including:
